    Hello from Holly-Bee. It seems like an age since I last posted anything, so thought I would share some goings-on from our Devon flower garden. Summer has gone by in a blur (seriously we’ve no idea how it slipped by so quickly) and now we’re on our way to autumn, and winding the garden down. But for now we’ve still got lots of gorgeous seasonal flowers. The complete stars at this time of year are the Dahlias… Bolshie and showy, but with such charm and with such a variety to choose from; I feel like there is a dahlia to suit any taste or colour palette and I love them! I’ve tried to document the dahlias we’ve grown this year, noting down where I think there may be gaps in terms of colour or shapes, and create next year’s wish list already: keen.     May has seen such a change in the flower garden at Holly-Bee, it’s as if the plants  have suddenly woken up, it feels wonderful. Things are growing at such a rapid pace that I try to take time every day to go and walk between the flower beds. Inevitably this ends up in weeding or tying stems in, but it is also a great time to take stock, make plans, and get inspired. This morning I took my camera and photographed some of the goodness that is currently growing and about to bloom. I also made a bouquet with the first of the peonies, (I’m very excited by this!) The plants are only young, so I won’t get a good crop from them for a while, but just these first few stems felt so special,  and the flowers were completely breathtaking.

    Wedding Flowers

    We were thrilled to be a part of The Vintage Wedding Fayre, last Sunday in Exeter. It was great to meet lots of lovely brides, and talk flowery dreams and ideas. Our stand was packed full of British flowers, with early blossoms and stunning anemones from our flower garden at Holly-Bee. This was our first major picking of the year (pretty good timing), and it’s so exciting to be growing and picking our flowers to work with again!
    Here’s a sneak peek at the flowers we took: romantic, slightly wild styling as always… The colour palette was spot on for wedding flowers; April brides, you are in for a treat!

    The Promise of Spring

    The Promise of Spring
    This winter has been grey, depressing and soggy. I’ve longed for crisp, cold days with blue skies and clear light (my favourite kind of weather). But they have been few and far between… The flower garden has become a treacherous mud bath, and at times it’s hard to remember the haven it becomes later in the year.
    There are signs of Spring though- hurrah! Snowdrops are popping up, luscious hellebores are nodding away, and even a Broom bush is flowering (at least a month earlier than last year). So even in this soggy climate, at Holly-Bee we’re looking forward to the year ahead and all the flowery excitement it will bring!
