The Promise of Spring
This winter has been grey, depressing and soggy. I’ve longed for crisp, cold days with blue skies and clear light (my favourite kind of weather). But they have been few and far between… The flower garden has become a treacherous mud bath, and at times it’s hard to remember the haven it becomes later in the year.
There are signs of Spring though- hurrah! Snowdrops are popping up, luscious hellebores are nodding away, and even a Broom bush is flowering (at least a month earlier than last year). So even in this soggy climate, at Holly-Bee we’re looking forward to the year ahead and all the flowery excitement it will bring!

 

High Summer Wedding : 25th July 2015
Last summer I had the pleasure of providing flowers for the lovely Rachel and Toby. Their wedding took place on Rachel’s parent’s farm in Surrey (I have flowers and will travel!)
The brief was for a wild flower feel with lots of colours and textures: think draping vines and vivid cornflowers and larkspurs… All this set out in a beautiful marquee with potted ferns and vintage treasures- completely and utterly beautiful.

 

Winter Wreaths

It’s that time of year when wreath making is all we’re thinking about. We’ve grown and dried umpteen flowers , seed heads, and grasses. We’ve foraged Larch branches, and picked up little pieces of lichen like mad women. BUT all for good reasons (we think); to adorn our beautiful wreaths. Holly-Bee wreaths are truly special, from the handmade willow bases, made by us too, to the intricate textures and luxurious ribbons.

D-D-D-Dahlias!

It’s been my first year growing dahlias, and I am completely besotted with them! They are currently the absolute star of our cutting garden at Holly-Bee, and have been for a good couple of months or so. With a bit of work to start with- potting the tubers up somewhere frost-free in Spring, making sure slugs don’t get to the new shoots, and feeding them fortnightly once planted out- they then work so hard, producing an unbelievable amount of flowers. And they keep on flowering until the first heavy frosts (which could be any day now). There are so many varieties and colours to choose from, my list for next year is already too long…
