Holly-Bee; the flower garden in May

May has seen such a change in the flower garden at Holly-Bee, it’s as if the plants  have suddenly woken up, it feels wonderful. Things are growing at such a rapid pace that I try to take time every day to go and walk between the flower beds. Inevitably this ends up in weeding or tying stems in, but it is also a great time to take stock, make plans, and get inspired. This morning I took my camera and photographed some of the goodness that is currently growing and about to bloom. I also made a bouquet with the first of the peonies, (I’m very excited by this!) The plants are only young, so I won’t get a good crop from them for a while, but just these first few stems felt so special,  and the flowers were completely breathtaking.

    April Flowers

1st May 2016 By Holly Bee

    April Flowers

On the first of May, I’m looking back to April… It’s been a busy month for the flower garden at Holly-Bee. Lots and lots of gardening; weeding, mulching, sowing seeds, pricking out, potting on… All getting ready for the season ahead. But there’s  also a fair bit of picking and using our flowers too, which has been wonderful. The tulips are now coming thick and fast and are so beautiful, especially the parrot types- such amazing textures and colours!

The anemones and ranunculus are still going strong and are now joined by Icelandic poppies, lots of delicate blossom and branches of hornbeam and hazel. These combined together create a perfect vision of spring!

    Wedding Flowers

4th April 2016 By Holly Bee

    Wedding Fair Flowers

We were thrilled to be a part of The Vintage Wedding Fayre, last Sunday in Exeter. It was great to meet lots of lovely brides, and talk flowery dreams and ideas. Our stand was packed full of British flowers, with early blossoms and stunning anemones from our flower garden at Holly-Bee. This was our first major picking of the year (pretty good timing), and it’s so exciting to be growing and picking our flowers to work with again!
Here’s a sneak peek at the flowers we took: romantic, slightly wild styling as always… The colour palette was spot on for wedding flowers; April brides, you are in for a treat!

    Pastel Anemones

29th March 2016 By Holly Bee

    Pastel Anemones

The sun is shining down on our flower garden in Devon, it’s SPRING! And we haven’t been blown away yet (although a few panes on the greenhouse have). Our first batch of flowers are just about ready to be picked- anemones, whoopee!
I’ve been wanting to grow anemones for a while now, they flower incredibly early, come in a beautiful array of colours, and they’re one of my favourite flowers. I had a rather disastrous experience growing them last year, with measly short, weak flowers, and plenty of rotted corms to boot. But this year… this year I think I’ve cracked it!
I managed to source some corms of Galilee Pastel anemones (on my list for a while: it’s a long list…) They are just starting to properly flower, and they are incredible! Long, strong stems, and the colours are just spot on; lots of faded pastel and dusky colours. Perfect for spring weddings, and stunning bouquets! I’ll be using them in some floristry this weekend- pics to follow soon.
So yes, exciting times at Holly-Bee; hurrah for spring!
